Tonight the local “public” group had their Samhain. This year it was called by a group that did things a bit different. It was a fantastic and fun ritual. There was a lot of singing, dancing and a mini play/mystery. They all did great, they memorized everything, and it all went smoothly. Everyone was pretty impressed I think!
I had to laugh as we went around giving out hugs and kisses. Some of these people I only see 8 times a year and yet I’m perfectly ok giving them a smooch on the cheek. The trust of the circle, the beauty of our community and just the joy we all share lets these moments happen.
And music. We are such a musical community. And there were also some great costumes tonight. We are an interesting group.
It’s always neat to see how other groups do their Sabbats, and I’ve been lucky enough to get to visit other covens for their holidays recently, and so am getting a nice slideshow of other traditions. That has always been the great thing about the Fringe, it lets us see what else is out there. I’ll have to remember to go to some more before next year.
The other thing I enjoy about spending time with other groups is being around elders. It’s a bit humbling to sit next to someone who has been practicing for longer then you have been alive.(30+years) It’s amazing to sit and chat with someone who was trained by Gerald Gardner. I never really thought about any of these things until recently. I always knew that certain groups and certain people had this long history in our community, but I never really connected how cool it was. I took it for granted I suppose that I would always have those resources. And now with the move coming I am realizing how incredibly lucky we are here.
Blessed be!
